USF’s rock music fans got a treat last Thursday when KUSF held a basement alt-rock show in their little office under Cowell Hall. Around 50 students crammed into the small room as the bands, Jinkies and Wild Wing, set up their small set on the back wall. Large letters spelled out “KUSF” behind them, acting as a backdrop for the impromptu concert venue.
KUSF’s small studio morphed into a stage for the night. Jinkies lured the once-scattered audience into the studio with their 2000s-reminiscent music. Music fans and students alike quickly fell in love with the alternative music the band delivered.
A little break in between bands allowed time for raffles. Students received tickets at the beginning of the night, and a lucky few went home with free KUSF and Wild Wing t-shirts. Next up, Wild Wings took to the stage.
Wild Wing rocked the room with their garage band-esque music. The crowd head banged and danced around, even though the audience was squished together in the small space. The lead singer started everyone off with their song, “Sound the Alarm,” a slower rock song with hints of Nirvana. Wild Wing even invited the audience to a local house party the following night, which was held in the basement of a small San Francisco townhouse, where the music was even louder. By the end of the concert, my feet hurt, my ears rang and my music fanatic heart was filled after all the singing and dancing. KUSF brought a rock concert to our campus and I cannot wait to see what they have in store for next semester.
