The University of San Francisco women’s basketball team rode their momentum into the West Coast Conference Tournament. The seniors of the team have led the squad on and off the court. Now, three of those seniors have been recognized by the West Coast Conference for their performance. Guard Anna Seilund has been named to the WCC All-Conference First Team, while forward Michaela Rakova has been named to the Second Team and guard Kalyn Simon received recognition as an Honorable Mention.
Seilund, hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark, led the Dons in points per game (15.1) and assists per game (5.0). The dual-threat guard was named to the All-Conference Second Team following the 2016-17 campaign. Seilund has made herself a crucial part of the Dons’ offense. In the WCC Tournament Quarterfinal game against Loyola Marymount University, she recorded 28 points, 9 steals and 6 assists as the Dons defeated the Mustangs 89-76 to secure a semifinal matchup against the top-seeded Bulldogs of Gonzaga University.
Rakova, a senior from Bratislava, Slovakia, has been a dominant presence in the post for the Dons. She leads the West Coast Conference and ranks 30th in the nation in rebounds, with 10.0 rebounds per game. Her 13.0 points per game also rank her 13th in the WCC in scoring. Rakova also led the WCC in double doubles, with 13 in 31 games, which ranks her 37th across all Division 1 Women’s Basketball players.

Simon is a redshirt senior from San Jose. She received All-WCC academic honors in 2016 and 2017 as she completed her degree in International Studies. She scored 423 points in her USF career, including 9.6 points per game as a starter in all 31 games this season.
In Monday’s semifinal game against Gonzaga, the Dons fell 65-53 in a game that was closer than the final score showed. The Dons’ lack of depth lead to their demise, as only eight players dressed for the game. This was likely the seniors’ final game as a Don. Seilund scored 9 points, and added 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Rakova tallied 11 points, and was one rebound shy of another double double. Simon led the Dons with 14 points. The Bulldogs’ Jill Barta led all scorers with a 19 point, 11 rebound performance.
