USF DJs and Red Bull Team-Up For Contest.

2 USF Student DJs compete for the title of Red Bull DJ Master this Thursday the 20th at Manor West.

Electronic dance music lovers of USF rejoice! On Thursday September 20, the Red Bull DJ Master competition takes place at Manor West, and will feature 6 of San Francisco’s top student DJs who will all be competing for the title of Red Bull DJ Master.

Each DJ gets 15 minutes to throw down and, much like Battle of the Bands, the crowd chooses the winner by cheering loudly for their favorites. The winner receives a cash prize, custom turntable slipmats, and a DJ master “Gold Record,” as well as the opportunity to perform at a Red Bull event in the future. Headlining the night is USF senior Gregory Sills, aka Fista Cuffs, who won the title last year.

“Last year I entered [the competition] to challenge myself, and rise above the rest,” says Greg. Danny Weir and Tomas Krasowski, both Seniors, will be representing USF in the competition this year and will not only battle each other, but also 4 other student DJs.

Danny Weir, aka Danny Weird, classifies his music within genres such as Glitch, Trap, Moombahton, and Dubstep. He has opened for Bass heavyweights such as Downlink, Feed Me, and Figure, as well as Trap superstar Flosstradamus.

For Tomas on the other hand, becoming a DJ is more of a dream than a goal, however his passion for electronic music shows no sign of slowing down.

“Hearing E-603’s ‘Something for Everyone’ really got me interested in DJing…I guess those tapes really sparked my interest and the flame hasn’t died down since.” Furthermore, Tomas believes that the Red Bull DJ Master competition, “is a great opportunity for talented local DJ’s to get out there, have a good time, and show San Francisco what they got.”

Come out to Manor West on Thursday to support these talented USF DJs! Doors open at 9pm and the first set drops at 10:30pm.
