This past weekend, the Dons women tennis team travelled south for a SoCal road trip to face off against Pepperdine and Loyola. On Friday USF played against Pepperdine at the Ralphs-Strauss Tennis Center and then took on LMU on Saturday.
To the Dons dismay they fell to Pepperdine in a devastating match. With the Waves taking over the doubles play, the Dons looked to come back in their singles play. USF players Andrea Ka and Marina Nikolic played well in their singles play against their opponents but were not able to contribute to the Dons’ comeback.
Following Friday’s play against Pepperdine, the Dons played well against LMU and won with a victory of 5-2. The Dons dominated the doubles play and were able to score their first point against LMU. USF players Andrea Ka and Marina Nikolic picked up a 6-2 win against opponents Lisa Piller and Ellie Grossman. Their momentum continued as three of four of USF’s points came from matches that were finalized in two sets. Thyra Taune picked up a point for the Dons in a match against Andrea Crespo with the scores of the sets being 6-1, 6-0. Following suit, Genevieve McCloskey dominated her match with a win of 6-1, 6-3 against Julia Norlin. Andrea Ka solidified the win the Dons by beating her opponent with a victory of 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
The Dons will continue their WCC play starting April 10 as they take on the Pacific and Saint Mary’s.
