Dear Foghorn readers,
To faculty, returning students and incoming first-years, welcome to the new semester. As we all settle into our new schedules and prepare for our imminent responsibilities, I wish you a smooth transition from the serenity of summer.
This is my last year as a student at the University of San Francisco, and my last year as a member of the Foghorn. I have been involved in the newspaper since the second semester of my freshman year of college when I chose the Foghorn as my organization for credit hours in Professor Tim Redmond’s Media Workshop class. I made my start as a photographer, then as a layout editor the following semester when I became an official staff member. After two years in that position I am proud to officially announce on print that I am now the Editor-in-Chief, joined by Bella Giammalvo as Managing Editor.
The transition from Layout Editor to Editor-in-Chief is an unconventional one, as I am the only Foghorn member in the past 125 volumes of the newspaper to have made that specific shift. With that said, I am entering this position with an embarrassing amount of uncertainty. Not in the quality of the paper or the stature of my staff – both are exceptional – but in the angst that looms over my own self. I have never done this before. Nevertheless, I maintain confidence in my adaptability.
Going into this semester, I aim to cultivate the Foghorn as a space and resource that is readily available not just to its own staff, but to the entire student and faculty body of USFCA. I encourage readers to reach out through our Instagram or email. I invite you to our office on the 4th floor of the University Center. And I hope to engage with you in person at the Involvement Fair today, as of September 3, 2026.
I congratulate our staff of 14, seven of whom are new members, for enduring the long hours of training and preparation to produce this first issue of our 125th edition. I look forward to the issues to come, the criticisms we will receive, the improvements we will make, the readers we will garner and the contributors we will welcome. This comes with special thanks to our advisor, Professor Teresa Moore, for the guidance to this point and beyond.
