Dons spring sports are wrapping up, with the men’s golf and women’s volleyball teams finishing out their seasons last week and the men’s baseball team closing in on the final stretch of their season.

The men’s baseball team went 2-1 in their most recent three game series at the Benedetti Diamond against the Pepperdine University between April 25 and April 27.

In game one the Waves jumped to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, but gave up ten unanswered scores for the remainder of the game. USF scored seven points in the fourth inning, which was highlighted by a left field double by senior right fielder JT Amaral that resulted in three RBI.

Senior shortstop TJ Rogers hit a left field homer in the seventh inning, leading to two RBI. The Dons won 10-4.

The next game USF lost 1-4, with their lone score in the ninth inning when freshman designated hitter Eddison Esquival hit a double, leading to one RBI.

The Dons bounced back in the third game, winning 16-0, tying their highest scoring game of the season. First baseman Patrick Keighran collected three hits and four RBI while junior left fielder Jordan Lewis had two hits and three RBI.

Head Coach Rob DiToma in the post game conference said, “These guys woke up with some fire in them, put together some good at bats,” he said. “Most of the games we win have that one big inning where we separate from a team, and it’s a credit to the offensive guys for having a really good plan against a lot of different pitchers.”

As of April 28, the team sits at 19-25 on the season. Their next three game series consists of a road trip to Fowler Park in San Diego, California to play the University of San Diego Toreros.

The women’s volleyball team closed out their season in the West Coast Conference Championship in Santa Monica, California between April 24 and April 25, going 1-2. Their two losses came against number four University of Santa Clara, with them losing 0-5 and 0-3 respectively. Their lone win came in a 4-1 victory against number six University of Portland. The team finishes their season 10-23.

The men’s golf team also competed in their West Coast Conference Championship at the Green Valley Country Club in Fairfield, Vacaville between April 25 and April 26, finishing seventh out of 10 teams.

Junior Renato Naula and sophomore Oscar Bredkjaer tied ninth individually at eight-under-par.
