Last week the mixtape gave you a taste of the bands coming to the Outside Lands festival in August at Golden Gate Park. I’m continuing the music festival theme. This week I’ll give you a taste of what you (and I) missed this weekend if we couldn’t afford the tickets or the trek to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CA. The camping and rocking filled weekend brings a slough of artists (major and indie) from around the world to Southern CA for three solid days of music. Major league artists this year included Paul McCartney, Girl Talk, Morrissey, the Killers, the Cure, My Bloody Valentine, Public Enemy and many more. Here are some samples of other artists there last weekend that definitely deserve a listen.
1) “Nomad for Love” by Gang Gang Dance off of “God’s Money”
2) “10 A.M. Automatic” by the Black Keys off of “Rubber Factory”
3) “Stay Positive” by the Hold Steady off of “Stay Positive”
4) “Watery Hands” by Superchunk off of “Indoor Living”
5) “For Kate I Wait” by Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti off of “The Doldrums”
6) “Open Heart Surgery” by Brian Jonestown Massacre off of “Tepid Peppermint Wonderland: A Retrospective”
7) “Photobooth” by Friendly Fires off of “Friendly Fires”
8) “The Hungry Wolf” by X off of “Under the Big Black Sun”
9) “Boom Swagger Boom” by the Murder City Devils off of “R.I.P.”
10) “The Old Days” by Dr. Dog off of “FATE”
Ah, but where’s the embedded music player?
