The USF men’s golf team returned to the course for the first time this season as they took part in the Mark Simpson Invitational hosted by the University of Colorado Boulder Buffaloes.
The Dons made strides over the course of the two-day event, tying for second place with the University of Utah Utes. Both teams shot a 36-under-828 team total.
Three Dons finished in the final top-20. Alex Chin placed in an eight-way tie for 12th place with a 9-under-207. Soren Link and Matthew Anderson tied for 20th place by shooting an 8-under-208. Toby Briggs tied for 30th place with a 5-under-211. Elsewhere in the field, Christoffer Palsson tied for 54th place after shooting an even-216 across all three rounds.
The invitational marked the sixth consecutive tournament that the Dons have finished in the top three, with their streak dating back to last February’s Orange County Collegiate Classic. Looking ahead, the Dons journey to Nevada Oct. 11 for the Wolfpack Invitational.
In a statement on Dons Athletics’ website, head coach Jack Kennedy said, “Everyone contributed this week which was a good sign. We all have some areas to improve in, but we are confident that we will be ready for Reno.”
